Memory

I get a little bit scared of posting my thoughts online, I get embarressed easily and don't want to sound silly, but here I go...
The other day I was looking back at photos of our house pre-renovations and I showed Steve a photo of the lounge. Almost at the exact same time, we both commented that as soon as we saw the photo, we could remember exactly how the house smelt (not very pleasant…) and it just struck me, just how powerful a photo can be, that just by looking at it we were both taken back to a smell from over a year ago. I guess a similar thing can be said with sound - while in Nepal, we recorded some sound while we were wandering round the streets and playing that back now, over 2 years later, I can visualise the streets and smell the incense that they burnt. Memory is a powerful thing.
I used to have dreams of helping to erase poverty and end famine through my photos. National Geographic is not where I've ended up... but I've recently come to realise that what we do is pretty powerful on perhaps a smaller scale but so important to lots of individuals. On your wedding day there is so much happening, so many emotions and the day goes so quickly! It's so nice to think that we can help people remember and cherish all those little moments that other wise may have been forgotten. We really hope that people can look back on their photos and remember how they felt as they walked down the aisle, the excitement of being announced as a married couple or a special moment they shared with their Mum or Dad.

The Sky

I was driving to get groceries a week or two ago - and saw this pretty amazing sky. So, I ran home and grabbed the camera.. and creatively pulled over on the overpass and took this photo. I wish I had my camera with me when I first spotted it, as it was even better....

2011 here we come…

2011 thus far has been a good year for us. We are fortunate that we were uneffected by the floods - and feel for those that were.
We kicked the new year off shooting a wedding, followed by 2 weeks (of what we think) were well deserved holidays in Cairns. I (Steve) actually lived in Cairns for 3 or 4 years, so, it was nice to take Jess up their and show her some of the local sites. Believe it or not, I had never been to the Great Barrier Reef - so, we both made sure that we crossed this off the list of things to do.
2011 is going to be a HUGE year for us! It is set to be our busiest year ever and, is the first year that we will be shooting weddings overseas.
In March we will be heading to Dubai, United Arab Emirates to shoot Lauren and Keiran's wedding and in December we will be off to Zimbabwe & South Africa to shoot Emma and Elmo's wedding (at the amazing Victoria Falls!).
I also spent some time living in Dubai, and whilst we made a quick trip there in 2009, Jess was pretty sick (effects of honeymooning in Nepal) so, probably didnt enjoy it as much as she could have. So, this time around (albeit a brief trip) hopefully I will get to show her some more of the incredible sites.
Jess and I can't wait to be a part of all the amazing weddings that are coming up. It's going to be a very busy year, but one that I believe will be a rewarding one.
Here are a few photos from our trip to Cairns. Enjoy...

Rain rain… well… do as you may

With all this rainy type weather lately... I thought perhaps a rainy type post would be relevant. In fact, we have been pretty lucky with the weather these last few weeks - it has threatened.. and in some cases even has rain - but, we have managed to dodge the rain and keep dry.
But.. in honor of the rain - here are three photos from three weddings we have done in the last few weeks.
