South Africa

This will be the last travel/holiday post for a while! Its hard not to share these images! But, I know that January is the time of year that brides like to do their research.. so, after this one, we will get back to blogging weddings! Promise.
The last part of our trip away was spent in South Africa. We had about a week up in the Kruger National Park. We were extremely lucky.. and saw the "Big 5" animals (Lion, Rhino, Elephant, Leopard and Buffalo)... we were also fortunate enough to see Wild Dogs.... which are quite rare. It is amazing to think that Africa, whilst quite similar in appearance to Australia... has so many animals that would happily eat you for breakfast!
After Kruger.. we spent some time in Capetown. My eldest brother lived in South Africa for some years.. and still has property there. He was gracious enough to fly down from his home in London to spend the week with Jess and I (and our two good friends, Sheree and Noel). It is always great to have someone with local knowledge to show you around! Capetown is a beautiful place... that in many ways could be confused for any coastal city in Australia.
This collection of photos, on the whole, are showing South Africa in a way that most people may not have pictured.
Enjoy!

Egypt
- December 19th 2011 • Posted by: Steve Bliesner • Categories: Travel
Our time in Egypt is almost over. We fly back to South Africa in just a few hours. From the balcony of the hotel, we can see the protests in Tahrir square - just two blocks from here. On the ground, the evidence of the struggle for freedom is very apparent.
Egypt is one of my most favourite places on earth to visit. This is my third time here (and Jess' first). The situation the country is in, is both exciting and dire. We are one of the few tourists who have been prepared to travel here in the midst of the elections, protests and the innocent deaths. On one hand, for the first time in decades, the Egyptian people have the chance to determine their own future, but, on the other hand, they don't seem trusing that it will all work fairly.
Cairo is a very busy city. With a population in the greater area of over 20 million people, it is a city that not everyone could handle. We have chose to spend most of our time in the much quieter southern city of Luxor - an amazing place that everyone needs to visit.
Jess and I have worked really hard this year... we shot over 50 weddings - so, we were quite happy to spend our afternoons and evenings sitting by the Nile River in Luxor relaxing and doing anything but think about work!! But.. in a country of such incredibly, hugely, massively rich history - we spent each morning checking out the remnents of the ancient Egyptian civilization.
We really hope you enjoy this small collection of photos from our week in Egypt.
Oh.. the majority of these photos were taken with our new little pocket camera - the Leica X1.

Supermarket

So, this might just look like a normal old supermarket... and, it basically is - except, its a supermarket in Zimbabwe. Its hard to imagine, but about 2 years ago you never would have found a supermarket in Zimbabwe with fully stocked shelves.
There is something about these fully stocked shelves, with their products all lined up, proudly on display, that really grabbed my attention.
