Mmmmm… Cake…

So, we're almost at the end of the year, almost at the end of wedding season! It has been a really busy year for us - our busiest yet! At all these weddings we get to see lots of different ideas our creative brides and grooms have so I thought I'd share some of the lovely looking cakes we've had this year. It was hard to pick out just a few - they all look so good (and from memory smelt delicious!) So, first up we have something a little different - the doughnut cake (doughnuts supplied by Dreamy Donuts) Just a little bit funny watching the couple 'cut the doughnut'!!
Second cake was a bit of a bake off between the groom, mum and mother-in-law. Each of them baked one layer of the cake, I'm not sure who ended up winning that competition actually, I'm sure they were all delicious : ) We thought it was a nice personal touch that it was home made (not that you could tell by looking at it! Not sure my cake decorating skills are quite up to scratch)
Third up we have a London Bus cake (made by Cake That) the bride and groom used to live in London and they themed the wedding around an English garden party. It was so detailed, even down to the Billy Eliott ad on the bus. Certainly a fun cake : )
Next up are cup cakes - everyone loves a cup cake! And team that with a mega lolly buffet and I'm sure you'll keep your guests all very happy.
A cheese cake... but not just any old cheese cake - this one is made with nothing but cheese! Delicious wheels of cheese for the bride and groom who aren't a sweet tooth and prefer some wine and cheese after dinner.
How about lots and lots of mini biscuits (by Michel's Fine Biscuit Company) another cake alternative. Those little biscuits smelt so good - I can still remember them so clearly.
Or of course a more traditional cake, looks beautiful and I'm sure it tasted amazing. We love the idea of putting a wedding photo of the bride and grooms parent's. A really lovely personal touch.
And last but not least, the bride and groom cake toppers - these little fellas show a bit of personality and make it a bit fun. So many options - who would've thought people could come up with so many ideas just for cakes!!

Sweet Reception Treats
- June 09th 2011 • Posted by: Jess Marks • Categories: Tips, Tricks & Ideas
It is quite important to many couples to include their special family members in their wedding day. At a recent wedding the couple had a really lovely idea which I've been excited to share. On the cake table they had an assortment of home made treats, all of which were a special recipe of a grandparent or parent. The couple had prepared them all ready for the day and displayed them with a photo and a cute little name tag. I just thought it was a really nice touch and a great way to include those important people in our lives and those who are no longer with us.

Wedding Readings
- April 06th 2011 • Posted by: Jess Marks • Categories: Tips, Tricks & Ideas
When you get married, there are SO many things to organise - it's all the little things that make the list grow. One of the things that I think a lot of people leave until quite close to the wedding is choosing readings. At a recent wedding the couple decided for one of their readings, to use a reading from their parent's wedding. We thought it was such a lovely idea and a great way to include your parents in the beginning of your married life.
Just wanted to share the idea because we thought it was really sweet.

Reception Centrepieces
- March 01st 2011 • Posted by: Jess Marks • Categories: Tips, Tricks & Ideas
So it seems I (Jess) must have a bit of a thing for white at the moment... I thought I would go through some weddings from last year and pick out some of my favourite reception/table decorations and it seems that almost every one of them is white on white. I think it's part of the whole 'less is more' mentality - simple, elegant and classic. This is not to say I'm not a fan of colour - I love it in fact, but these centrepieces really took my fancy. With some soft light from candles and the mood lighting that generally comes with a wedding reception - there is always something a bit magical about walking into a room that looks so beautiful. On a side note, I also love the flower pots and tea pots for something a bit different to a traditional vase.

Shoes of Prey
- February 10th 2011 • Posted by: Jess Marks • Categories: Tips, Tricks & Ideas
I recently stumbled across Shoes of Prey which is an online shoe store - not your average shoe store however as you can design your own shoes! So if you're looking for custom made wedding shows, you should definately check these guys out. Heaps of different styles, round toe, pointy toe, closed in, peep toe - so many choices, and then of course the colour and leather type! It was only by chance that I saw one pair on the website and thought they looked similar to some lovely red shoes we had taken photos of at a wedding late last year. Turns out - they are from Shoes of Prey. (And yes, these were the bride's shoes, I think the guests got a bit of a buzz from seeing these bright red shoes peek out under her dress)
Wedding shoes aren't always the easiest things to find - here you can design your own! Now I'm just itching to have an excuse to buy a pair! : )
