Mina a Salam Wedding in Dubai
People always ask us how we managed to get a wedding in Dubai. So, here is the story:
Lauren & Kieran actually live in Brisbane, but, they both grew up in Dubai (they were there when Dubai was a much sleepier place than it is today) - Lauren's parents still live in Jumeriah, Dubai, and Kieran's parents now live in Thailand (Kieran is actually Canadian). So, it made more sense for the wedding to be over there. Capice?
We received an enquiry early last year from Lauren & Kieran, about doing an engagment shoot with them (here in Brisbane) as they wanted some photos to use on their invitations for their Dubai wedding. Now, given that I spent some time living in the UAE and have numerous family and friends there still (hello family and friends reading this!) my ears pricked up, and suggested that we would also love to shoot the wedding as well. So..... they agreed.. and here we are.
So... in actuallity, we photographed not one, but two weddings in Dubai - both of them being Lauren & Kierans! To skate around a few local techincallaties, they needed to have a Church Wedding and then they could have their Beach Wedding. So, they had a very intimate church wedding with close family, followed by a few portraits at the Dubai Creek.
But the main event was held on the Saturday at the amazing Mina a' Salam hotel (at Madinat Jumeirah) with absolute water front views and possibly one the best views of the Burj al Arab hotel you will ever get. The hotel complex is so big you can get a 10 minute boat ride around it! Lauren and the girls started the day at Cut & Shape getting hair and makeup done.. and then it was back to Mina a' Salam(which actually means the Port of Peace) for final touch ups and getting dressed.
We were in Dubai for 8 days. We had 7 days of picture perfect weather. The other day - sandstorm. No guesses as to which day the sandstorm hit. We didn't quite get the crystal clear skies that we had seen for the other days we were there, but, I think it added a little something to the photos.
So with the Arabian Gulf and the Burj al Arab in the background - Lauren was set to make her grand enterance down the sea shell laiden aisle. Aside from being one of the nicest and friendliest people you will ever meet, Lauren is also one of the smiliest people you will ever meet. She has since said it was because she was nervous, but, for anyone else watching, it sure seemed like she was excited as anything to hurry up and get married!
We used the surrounds of Mina a' Salam for most of the photos as well as venutring across to Madinat Jumeirah. I mentioned before, but the both of these hotels are amazing! I personally think it is possibly the nicest hotel in Dubai!
The wedding reception was at Shimmers Restaurant, which is actually a part of Mina a' Salam, and is situated right on the beach front. Again... the views were specactular. The evening contained a little surpirse fireworks display, which were set off from a barge, just next to the Burj al Arab hotel. Beautiful.
Jess and I were completely honored to be there for Lauren & Kierens day. Tohave us come all the way over there to be a part of things, makes us feel a little bit special.
