Real life bride feature - Vickie and Nick
Just for something a little bit different... we currently have a Real Life Bride feature in the Ideal Bride magazine so we thought we would share it here as well. The wedding is of the lovely Vickie and Nick (view their full blog post here) It really was a beautiful wedding and we're looking forward to catching up with them in a couple months at their friend's wedding! Anyway, here's the article...
It all started...
When we were struggling uni students, working at Target, our lunchroom conversations turned into dating. When I met his mum on the third date, I knew things were serious! After we had been together 5 years, Nick planned a romantic proposal during a weekend beachside picnic. However, he bought the engagement ring on the Monday and found he couldn't wait even 24 hours. That night as we were sitting together watching TV, he popped out the ring and proposed.
Our Ideal Wedding
We had an 18 month engagement, giving us plenty of time to make wedding decisions. We chose the Nazareth Lutheran Church at Woolloongabba for our ceremony. Our photographer, Jess Marks and her husband Steve, were also married at this church. So she was really familiar with all of the great inside and outside locations. The church was quite accommodating and happy for a family friend to perform the ceremony at 3pm on a Sunday afternoon.
My sister, and two friends from college were my bridesmaids and truly were my support team. Our colour scheme was black and white with silver. I found my dress at White Lily Couture at Victoria Point. It fitted, it was comfortable and that made it perfect. I never thought I would wear a veil but when the assistant suggested I try a thin cathedral veil, I was sold. Our reception was at Fix Restaurant at the Port Office Hotel, with the emphasis more on the dancing and less of formalities. On the invitations we has asked our guests to supply a favourite song that they love dancing to and included the suggestions during the night. Jess and Steve set up a photo booth at the reception. We gave our guests stubby coolers with our names and date and: To have and to hold, and to keep your beer cold.
I am recommending Jess to everyone. She was fantastic. There are surprises all through her work with action shots that we were completely unaware were being taken.
- The unplanned post-wedding drinks with our guests at the Belgian Beer Cafe, while waiting for the reception to begin at 6:30. Totally spontaneous with the pub making their premises available for more great photos, even opening an empty bar for us to use.- An italian honeymoon was the perfect end. Nick organised everything - a few days in Rome; a week in a Tuscan villa and spending the last few days in Venice.
