What happens during our newborn photography session if our baby just cries the entire time?
I think one worry every new parent has for their newborn photography session is that their baby will cry the whole time... I can still remember how nervous I was going to the very first doctor’s appointment with my newborn baby boy when he was just a week old. Will he cry the whole time? What if I need to feed him and he won’t latch? What if I can’t get him to settle? Of course he just slept the whole time and all the worry was for nothing but I can definitely understand how this would be a worry for new parents for a Brisbane newborn photography session.
First off, I get it, I understand all those new Mum feelings… no one really knows what they’re doing right? Babies cry and sometimes you don’t know why. Breastfeeding doesn’t come easily to everyone and it can be really tough in the beginning or for some not possible at all. Some times it feels like your newborn baby will never fall asleep and in turn you will never get to sleep again. So I think one of the most important things for you to know, is that I get it. Try not to stress if your baby is crying we can be patient and let them lead the photography session. If they want to be cuddled, great! If they want to be held in a certain way, no worries. My little boy sometimes would only settle if you held him while bouncing on a gym ball (and don’t even think about stopping or he’d instantly wake up) If they need to feed, then feed them. And if you just can’t shake that worry, why not book in the Family Story Session - this is a newborn photography session that goes for a bit longer… that way we have a little more time in case they are having one of those unsettled days.
For second (or third or fourth) time parents there is also the added worry of whether that proud new big bro or sister is going to act the way you'd like them to. Their little world has just been turned completely upside down, it is totally normal for them to get upset or maybe crave a little more attention, especially with a family photographer in the house. This is another situation where I’d suggest booking in the Family Story or Full Story Session. This gives everyone time to warm up to me as your photographer and my camera (which looks a little different to Mum or Dad’s phone), you can take things easy and just go about your morning or afternoon as you normally would.
And if you still just can’t shake those worries, or maybe the birth didn’t go to plan and you need some more time to recover… having your baby photography session when they are a little older might be the way to go. Do what works best for you and your family.
